about platforms - HIDE
The staple of the seventies is back with a bang in today's trendy platform shoes.

It would seem that fads cycle through the decades, each generation putting their own spin on their predecessors' favorite fashions. Such is the case with platform shoes. A wardrobe essential for young women (and men!) thirty years ago, platform shoes are once again gaining momentum in today's fashion market.

The platform shoes of the 21st century, however, are generally less shocking and more versatile than their retro cousins. Today, platform shoes come in all shapes, appropriate for a variety of occasions. The most common shape of platform shoes is the sandal. These platform shoes feature wooden or espadrille soles and strappy uppers, suggesting a casual attitude, such as the Mia Dawn. Also affecting an informal air are platform shoes designed as flip flops, like the Yellow Box Bambi. Even some sneakers are classified as platform shoes, with edgy stripes around the midsole (see the Rocket Dog Zipee). Other platform shoes are more elegant. The Vince Camuto Jula, for example, is a pump-style platform shoe, complete with a sophisticated peep toe and ankle wrap. Finally, platform shoes have even found a place in the world of boots on the quilted Report Kodiak and other cold-weather fashions.

Whether forming the front of a wedge or adding stability to a spike heel, platform shoes give a little more height with a little less discomfort. Browse Solestruck's selection today and give yourself a lift with a pair of fun, funky platform shoes.
